PHOENIX COACH WAYNE GRETZKY QUOTES
Tuesday, January 24, 2006 versus Minnesota
Thoughts on the teams play tonight.
“I thought both teams played very well. It was a good game for the fans. Both teams had chances. I thought we showed up and played hard. It was a very physical game.”
Your impressions of the Wild.
“They’re a very well coached team. They have very good goal tending. They are well prepared, and they play well as a team.”
Does this do anything for the psyche of your team?
“This is a disappointing loss. I thought we had a very good chance to win this one, but it’s just one game. We have a long way to go, and we have to take them one game at a time.”
How do you feel you guys played?
“I thought we had quite a few chances. I thought both teams were very aggressive. I felt we started the game ready to play. Every game is big from here on out. We have to forget about this one and move on.”
Down two defensemen, how do you feel the Wild played?
“I thought Manny (Fernandez) played very well. Burns (Brent) moved back to defense, and I thought they played very well defensively to make up for the loss of the two defensemen.”
How does it feel to come back to Minnesota?
“I love playing here. This is a great arena to play in. The fans are always into it. They know their hockey. We didn’t have a great second period. I thought we kind of let it slip away. We have to do a better job.”
Did you try to work on Minnesota’s ‘D’ when they were down two defensemen?
“We wanted to get it in deep and work their defensemen. We tried to do that as best we could, but we gave up that short handed goal and that’s what hurt. That was deflating, but we couldn’t get down because we still had over a minute to go in the power play. We’ll just have to forget about this game and move on.”
