The opponent

The Winnipeg Jets saw their three-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night by the Columbus Blue Jackets in a 5-2 defeat at Bell MTS Place.

Winnipeg's best players have been just that through the early portion of the season; Nikolaj Ehlers leads the club with seven points (including five goals), and not far behind are Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler with six points and Patrik Laine and Bryan Little with four apiece.

Where the Jets have had some inconsistency is in goal. Connor Hellebuyck and Steve Mason have eachn started three games this season, but the results so far couldn't be more different; Mason, signed as a free agent over the summer to provide veteran stability, is 0-3 with a 5.96 goals against and an .846 save percentage.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Hellebuyck has been outstanding, posting a 3-0 mark with a 2.11 goals against and a .937 save percentage. Hellebuyck is expected to start Friday night.
