Last year, Wild.com wanted help from our fans in the State of Hockey and beyond to help us select the Top Play of the Year. To do so, we needed you to pick the Top Play each week, so we could pit them against each other in the offseason in a single-elimination tournament. Last year's winner was Jason Zucker's first-career goals against Detroit. We had so much fun, we're going to do it again this year.
This season, we're getting help selecting the top play each week from our friends at Dairy Queen. Last week, Jason Pominville was involved in two potential Plays of the Week, but it was his goal that took the honors. Pominville sniped a shot top shelf, over the glove of Blues' goaltender Brian Elliot.
This week, Pominville is once again up for honors. Working on a set play with linemate Zach Parise Saturday night against the Blue Jackets, Pominville crept towards the net as Parise chased the puck down behind it. Parise turned and found Pominville as he worked towards the cage where the right-winger banged it home past netminder Sergei Bobrovsky. Next up, Pominville and Granlund fed Parise for a power play goal from the PPG Line against Edmonton. Pominville sent a cross-ice pass to Granlund who tapped it down to Parise, waiting by the crease. His first attempt doesn’t go in, but the left-winger stays at it and nets his own rebound by goaltender Viktor Fasth. Finally, Darcy Kuemper puts in bid as he stonewalled Carl Hangelin of the New York Rangers. Hagelin gathered an up-ice pass for a breakaway but Kuemper held strong, kicking out Hagelin’s attempt.
