Last year, Wild.com wanted help from our fans in the State of Hockey and beyond to help us select the Top Play of the Year. To do so, we needed you to pick the Top Plays each week, so we could pit them against each other in the offseason in a single-elimination tournament. We had so much fun, we're going to do it again this year.
Last season's Top Play of the Year was a memorable one that combined brute force, finesse and overtime theatrics. Fans voted “Koivu’s Exploding Shoulder Set Up” as the best of 2011-12.
This season, we're getting help selecting the top play each week from our friends at Dairy Queen and looking for fans to vote for the Ri-DQ-ulous Play of the Week.
In Week 1, we have a pair of firsts and an entry from last year's winner. The first entry is a one-time blast from Minnesota's own Zach Parise, his first in a Wild sweater. Next in the running for play of the week is Mikael Granlund's first-career NHL goal. The final entry comes off the stick of Mikko Koivu, who scored a deceptive goal off of the back-bar.
