Traverse City Tournament Cancelled

by Mike Doyle / Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild prospects will not participate a pre-season tournament this year.

The Detroit Red Wings, hosts of the Traverse City Prospects Tournament, which the Wild have been annual participants, have decided to cancel the tournament.

According to the Red Wings, the tournament was cancelled because of the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming collective bargaining agreement. The tournament was set to start Sept. 15, the same day that the current collective bargaining agreement expires.

The Wings started the tourney in 1998 and it is the first time the tournament has been canceled.

At last year's tournament, Minnesota's prospects finished in fifth place. The Wild prospects took home the Traverse City title in 2010.

The first tournament featured prospects from the Red Wings, St. Louis, Chicago and Nashville. Last season, the Wild, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars and New York Rangers participated in the Traverse City Tournament.
