Top Plays Tournament - Semifinals

by Mike Doyle / Minnesota Wild

After each week during the regular season, asked fans to pick the Top Play from each week. Now, we want to know which play is the best of the best. The only way to do this is a 32-play winner-take-all Top Plays Tournament. Each of the 27 weekly winners are squaring off along with five wild card plays that received the most votes, but were not picked as Top Plays in their respective weeks.

The voting in the quarterfinals in the Top Plays Tournament was close, but we’ve narrowed the field down to four plays.

Dany Heatley was ousted from his own bracket, as Bouchard’s Pick And Finish (11/25 vs. EDM) eliminated Heatley’s Sick Tip (10/8 vs. CBJ). We won’t be seeing an all-Kyle Brodziak final, as Latendresse Handiwork (11/3 vs. VAN) topped Brodziak Finishes Passing Display (1/12 vs. DAL). However, Brodziak’s Triple Effort (12/2 vs. NJD) tricked Rau Fools Thomas (2/19 vs. BOS) to keep him in the tourney. Finally, Koivu’s Exploding Shoulder Set Up (11/1 at DET) is the last road play still in the tourney, topping his own, Koivu’s Individual Effort (11/19 vs. STL).

Now in the semifinals, we’ve narrowed the field to four plays with two head-to-head matchups. Each head-to-head winner will advance to the semifinals, which will be announced next Monday. Get a PDF of the semifinal bracket, here.

All you have to do is watch each video, select your favorite for each head-to-head matchup, then scroll down to the bottom of the page to submit your vote.

Voting will be close on Sunday at 7 p.m. Each Monday, we'll move on to the next round with the winner being announced on Tuesday, May 29.
