Media Relations and Team Services Coordinator Ryan Stanzel will file a periodic blog throughout the 2008-09 season, if only to prove to his mother that her son does more than “watch sports for a living.“

Players often say that the first day back after a road trip is just like still being on the road trip, and for PR staff it’s the same. Got to the office by 8 a.m., and already on the second caffeinated beverage of the day.
Not much news to report because we haven’t been to the rink yet. Headed there shortly with a whole stack of notes, rosters, clips and training camp guides, put together this morning by our trusty intern Robert Desimone.
I’ve had a couple people track down my e-mail address and send me blog comments. Thanks especially to Navi in Brampton, Ont., who inquired about Corey Locke. If you’d like to send me a comment, please send it to firstname.lastname@example.org. If the inbox is empty after a day or two, I’ll think my jokes are no longer funny and I should stop the blog ...
Just got an e-mail from the senior publicity manager of NASN -- the ESPN owned sports channel in the United Kingdom, requesting an interview with Belfast, Northern Ireland, native Owen Nolan.
Off to the rink, we’ll catch up with you after the skate. 1:15 p.m.
It’s amazing how fast time progresses on gamedays. During the middle of the season, it seems like you can do most of this stuff with your eyes closed, but it’s the preseason, too, in public relations, trying to remember all the gameday duties.
That goes also for our intern, Robert, who will work his first preseason game tonight. Besides making copies, Robert puts up signs on all the locker rooms, brings timing sheets to both teams and hands credentials out to the opposing PR guru in the morning.
No big news out of the skate. Several “Wild” players, including Brent Burns and Eric Belanger took the ice with the group that is going to play tonight, despite the fact they aren’t going to play. Currently over in the arena, the Aeros coaches are putting another group of younger players through a skate.
Several guys caught up with Steve Kelly today. Kelly was a Houston Aero for most of last season and suffered a knee injury in his second game with the Wild, March 13. Kelly is in camp with the Blue Jackets and is expected to play tonight.
I grabbed some lunch, put some will call envelopes together and am navigating the new Wild media guide -- on the internet. Most NHL teams, including the Wild, will continue to print media guides, but in smaller quantities, and an online version featuring some different navigational tools will be available as well. It’s pretty neat.2:20 p.m.
Best news we’ve gotten all day -- tonight’s Billy Rob Café menu is up. And I’m happy I went light with lunch. Now we may head out for a quick workout so we can afford to eat all that food tonight.
