Taking a well deserved day of R and R after a long road trip, Ryan Stanzel's blog will be written by guest author, Manager of Communications, Media Relations, Aaron Sickman.Oct. 20, 2008
Returned from practice at Parade with a few notes. Jacques told writers Bouchard, Gaborik and Nolan all skated before team this morning. Zidlicky practiced with the team for first time since the preseason so it looks like he is the closest player out of the four to get back on the ice for a game. The Wild's top line of Brunette, Koivu and Miettinen left practice a good 25 minutes before everyone else after displaying some tremendous passing and scoring skills. Following practice the Wild's finance department held a meeting with the players to go over payroll information and to make sure everyone's paper work was turned in for direct deposit, etc. Most players didn't need a lot of encouragement to attend.
Still three days before next game so plenty of time to get game notes wrapped up and will spend most of the afternoon sending out a couple of press releases (Wild Week and State of Hockey Tribute to Naegele Family). Niklas Backstrom
was named the NHL's Second Star today after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.30 goals-against average, .952 save percentage and one shutout as the Wild won three consecutive road games. I was convinced Antti Miettinen would be the League's First Star after recording the game-winning/deciding goal in all three Wild wins last week amongst his six points (4-2=6). Not that Backstrom didn't deserve to be recognized for his great week, I just thought Miettinen deserved to be recognized as well.
Also of note... Mike Ramsey is having eye surgery and wasn't at practice today.
