The 7 a.m. wake-up call for the 8 o'clock bus to the airport came early today. It didn’t help that it was still dark outside. Our bus driver, Mark, did a great job for us the whole time in Calgary, and he had us to the airport at 8:20. We encountered a very long line at Customs; with lots of morning flights out of every airport during the holiday season, this one was no different. Everyone was through security, though, and on plane at 9:25. It snowed last night, so we had to be de-iced before takeoff, and were in the air at 10 a.m., an hour later than the 9 a.m. departure on our itinerary. Fortunately, the flight home was only a little over two hours.
A funny thing happened after we landed. What was supposed to be a practice day turned into a no-practice day. I found out after getting into my car and driving toward the exit gate. Mario Tremblay was outside telling everyone there would be no practice, but there would be at Xcel Energy Center tomorrow morning. Nice surprise for everyone. Instead of driving to Parade Ice Garden, the players were able to drive home.
