Seven Wild Prospects Set For NCAA Tournament

by Evan Sporer / Minnesota Wild

With the field announced, 16 of college hockey's top teams will compete for the right to travel to Tampa Bay and the 2016 Frozen Four, beginning this weekend.

There are four regional tournaments taking place across the country — including one at Xcel Energy Center — and seven Minnesota Wild prospects represented on five schools.

Here is when each player will be in action, how to watch, and a bit about his season:

Northeast Regional, Worcest, MA

Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26

Carson Soucy and Minnesota Duluth vs. Providence

Soucy is a 6-foot-4, junior defenseman who plays big minutes on the Bulldogs Blue line. Duluth's second trip to the NCAA tournament in as many years begins with trying to dethrone defending national champion Providence.

How to watch: Friday, March 25, 3:30 p.m. CT, ESPN3

Alex Tuch, Adam Gilmour and Boston College vs. Harvard

Tuch and Gilmour both play on the same line, and are both integral parts of the Eagles offense. After a slow start, Tuch has 15 goals this season, outpacing the 14 he scored during a very productive freshman campaign a year ago. Gilmour has 12 goals and 25 points in 38 games this season, and is a reliable, two-way center who, since getting healthy and moved onto a line with Tuch, has been more productive.

How to watch: Friday, March 25, 7 p.m. CT, ESPNU

Midwest Regional, Cincinnati, OH

Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26

Nicholas Boka, Nolan De Jong and Michigan vs. Mario Lucia and Notre Dame

Boka and De Jong are part of the high-powered Wolverines offense; no team in the country averages more than Michigan's 4.89 goals per game. Boca, in his freshman season, has nine assists in 36 games and is a plus-18. De Jong, a junior defenseman, has 11 assists on the season.

Lucia, the senior alternate captain for the Fighting Irish, will get one last shot at college hockey's top prize. The forward's scoring is down this season from a year ago (12 goals in 36 games, compared to 21 in 42), but he's still leaned on as one of Notre Dame's leaders, and that certainly doesn’t change come tournament time.

How to watch: Friday, 4:30 p.m. CT, ESPNU

West Regional, Saint Paul, MN; Xcel Energy Center*

Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27

Jordan Greenway and Boston University vs. Denver

Greenway has been lauded all season for playing a "pro-style" game. The 6-foot-6, 230 pound freshman turned 19 in February and looks the part of an NHL power forward. He has 25 points in 38 games this season, with 23 of those points in his past 25 games.

How to watch: Saturday, March 25, 5:30 p.m. CT, ESPNU
