The Minnesota Wild announced registration is now open for the third annual Minnesota Wild Breakaway 10K/5K/1-Mile Run, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. Celebrating the start of the 2016-17 NHL season, the run will take place on Saturday, Sept. 24 in Saint Paul beginning at 8:30 a.m. All races will begin and end near Xcel Energy Center and proceeds will benefit the Herb Brooks Foundation.
New this year is the “Herbie’s Hill” contest for racers participating in the 5K or 10K runs. Prizes will be awarded for the top male and female runners with the fastest splits in each distance from the bottom to the top of the Wabasha Street Bridge.
Racers can register for the Wild Breakaway Run online at wild.com/breakaway. Participants who register before July 1 receive the largest discount on entry fees. Fees will increase on July 1, August 13, September 10, and on the day of the race so racers are encouraged to sign up early.
The top three male and female finishers at each distance will receive two lower-level tickets to a 2016-17 regular season Wild game to be announced. The first-place male and female finishers at each distance will also receive a 2015-16 team signed hockey stick. Awards will also be given to the top male and female Wild Season Ticket Holders in each race.
Participants are encouraged to wear Minnesota Wild gear for a chance to be featured in a race gallery on wild.com and on Wild social media platforms.
All participants will receive a Wild Breakaway t-shirt and are qualified to win two tickets in a suite for the Minnesota Wild vs. Winnipeg Jets preseason game at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. Ten winners will be randomly selected. All race finishers will receive a Wild Breakaway Race medal and are eligible to win a 2015-16 team signed stick.
