The Wild skated an hour early this morning so players and coaches could attend today’s Faceoff Luncheon at the Crowne Plaza. The guys were on the ice a little more than an hour. Todd Richards liked his team’s intensity but says they still have things to work on, like puck battles. He used a 3-on-3 drill in the corner to emphasize this.

Richards also said he’s had a drill he’s wanted to use since the beginning of camp but hasn’t gotten to it, and he’d like to add that into the mix tomorrow. It’s a drill on defensive zone coverage.
Everyone was on the ice, including Benoit Pouliot. He hasn’t been given the full go yet, but looked good. He was skating on the Wild’s fourth line with Belanger, Brodziak and Scott.

Richards changed the stalls in the locker room around, so I had to familiarize myself with where everyone was today. Mikko Koivu didn’t change. Although now to his right is Cal Clutterbuck, who is between Koivu and Andrew Brunette. Kim Johnsson moved one stall over. The guy whose stall I wish they’d change, goaltender and team DJ Josh Harding, is still the same.

Working on game notes for Saturday’s game in Columbus. Aaron Sickman will be with the Wild on this trip. They will practice Friday morning, then fly out at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon.

We’ve got a few players who will be doing weekly radio appearances this year and we’ll post those sometime this week.

That’s about it today. We should have more news tomorrow, heading into the season opener Saturday! Don’t forget, the NHL season opens up tonight. A couple games on VERSUS, too!
