During last year's training camp, the Minnesota Wild dealt with a rash of injuries to key players, which limited Head Coach Todd Richards' ability to develop chemistry among his lines and defensive pairings.
This fall, Richards will be hoping that the Wild can avoid the injury bug during an eight-day stretch that will be key in developing chemistry as Minnesota looks to cure whatever caused a slow start last season.
The Wild will play six of its seven preseason games in just over a week's time, starting with a visit from the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, Sept. 22, and ending with a visit from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, Sept. 30. The Wild will then cap the preseason during its first-ever trip overseas with a Compuware NHL Premiere exhibition game against Ilves Tampere, the most decorated club in Finnish Elite League history, in Tampere, Finland on Monday, Oct. 4 at 11:00 a.m. (CDT).
The preseason lineup also includes a visit from the Eastern Conference champion Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, Sept. 25, and a road trip to Montreal on Sunday, Sept. 26. The Wild will twice face the Blues (Sept. 22 at Xcel Energy Center, Sept. 24 at Scottrade Center) and the Blue Jackets (Sept. 28 at Nationwide Arena, Sept. 30 at Xcel Energy Center).
The Wild's friendly with Ilves Tampere at Tampereen Jaahalli Arena will be the first exhibition game against a non-NHL opponent. It will be the club's final tuneup before taking on the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere at Hartwall Areena in Helsinki, Finland on Thursday, Oct. 7.
The Wild has played in non-NHL arenas for preseason games before, including: the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore. (Sept. 19, 2000), Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D. (Oct. 6, 2002, Oct. 1, 2003, Sept. 23, 2005 and Sept. 24, 2007), Winnipeg Arena in Winnipeg, Mtba. (Sept. 18, 2003) and Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2005). The club also held intra-squad games at the DECC in Duluth in 2001 and White Bear Lake Sports Center in White Bear Lake in 2007.
The Wild owns a 36-23-6 all-time mark in preseason games, and was 3-4-0 during last year's exhibition schedule.
The complete regular season schedule will be announced on Tuesday, June 22. Information on single gmae tickets for Wild preseason and regular season games at Xcel Energy Center will be announced later in the summer. However, Season Tickets are available now, and more information can be found here
