Minnesota earned a 2-1 victory over Montreal on Wednesday night in front of a sellout crowd of 19,034 at Xcel Energy Center. LW Jason Zucker and RW Jason Pominville each scored for the Wild. G Darcy Kuemper earned his 11th win of the season with 18 saves. Next up, Minnesota continues its homestand with a game against Anaheim on Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT on FOX Sports North PLUS and KFAN 100.3 FM.
Minnesota outshot Montreal, 35-19, and has only been outshot in two games this season. The Wild has totaled a 796-612 advantage through 24 games.
Minnesota played its second contest of a four-game homestand and moved to 8-2-1 at Xcel Energy Center, where it has outscored opponents, 36-24.
The Wild has killed 33-of-36 (91.7%) of opponent power-play opportunities combined in the last 12 games dating back to Nov. 8. Minnesota ranks second in the NHL with a 88.9% penalty kill percentage (64-for-72).
LW Jason Zucker netted his 10th goal of the season to open the game’s scoring. He has six points (5-1=6) in the last seven games, including a three-game point streak (2-1=3) since Nov. 28. He ranks second on the team in goals this season and Minnesota is 6-2-0 when he scores this season, including wins the last four games in which he scored.
C Mikko Koivu tallied the sole assist on Zucker’s goal. He has five points (1-4=5) in his last five games and 10 points (3-7=10) in 24 games this season.
RW Jason Pominville scored his fifth goal of the season. He has four points (1-3=4) in his last five games and ranks second on the Wild with 16 points (5-11=16) in 24 games. He has 34 points (14-23=33) in 53 games against Montreal.
LW Zach Parise tallied the secondary assist on Pominville’s goal. Of his 19 games played this season, Parise has registered at least one point in 12 contests – five of those being multi-point games. He leads the Wild with 19 points (9-10=19) this season.
After being recalled yesterday, D Christian Folin registered his first point of the season with an assist on Pominville’s goal.
D Ryan Suter missed his first game since signing with the Wild on July 4, 2012. He is the only player to skate in every game with Minnesota the last two-plus seasons. Of the 153 regular-season games he has played consecutively with Minnesota, he has led all Wild players in TOI in 145 of those contests (94.8%). He has led all skaters, Wild and opponent, in TOI in 134-of-153 games (87.6%). He has only missed 32 career games in his 10 NHL seasons.
G Darcy Kuemper stopped 18-of-19 shots and moved to 11-7-0 this season with a 2.29 GAA, a .912 SV% and three shutouts. His three shutouts rank T-3rd in the NHL and is a career high. Including postseason, he is 18-5-2 with a 1.89 GAA and a .923 SV% in his career at Xcel Energy Center.
C Alex Galchenyuk scored for Montreal while G Carey Price made 33 saves.
