G Jonathan Quick made 27 saves, LW Alexander Frolov had two goals and an assist and C Michal Handzus tallied a goal and an assist, leading the Los Angeles Kings past the Minnesota Wild 5-2 in front of 18,504 at Xcel Energy Center. LW Andrew Brunette and RW Owen Nolan scored a goal apiece and G Niklas Backstrom made 24 saves for Minnesota, which plays host to New Jersey on Saturday at 7 p.m.


The Wild wrapped up December with a 10-6-0 mark – tying the new team record for victories in any month. Minnesota went 10-3-2 in March 2007.

LW Andrew Brunette scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season. Brunette ranks second on the Wild with 34 points (11-23=34).

RW Owen Nolan scored his 10th goal of the season – his 14th consecutive season of playing that he has scored double digits.

C Mikko Koivu currently has six assists in a five-game assist streak that ties his career-high (March 9-March 19, 2008). He has 18 points (4-14=18) in his last 18 contests and leads the Wild with 39 (10-29=39) points.

D Kim Johnsson had his career-high three-game goal streak snapped.

The Wild fell to 5-3-0 all-time on New Year’s Eve, and 5-2-0 at Xcel Energy Center.

Tonight marked just the third of the Wild’s last 12 home games that weren’t decided by one goal. Fourteen of the Wild’s 18 home games this season have been decided by one goal.

Minnesota had killed off 15 consecutive shorthanded chances before LW Ryan Smyth scored late in the first period.
 
Minnesota dropped to 6-3-0 when facing a team that played the night before, with three of those wins coming past regulation.

G Niklas Backstrom made 24 saves and fell to 7-2-1 in his last 10 games at Xcel Energy Center. The Wild is also 7-2-1 in its last 10 home games.

The Wild tied a season high, allowing three goals in the first period, the third time it has happened this season.
 
Former Wild captain and Kings D Sean O’Donnell played his 500th game in a Kings sweater.

Kings D David Drewiske, a native of nearby Hudson, Wisc., notched an assist with approximately 100 friends and family in attendance.
