RW Antti Miettinen scored the GWG 6:47 into the third period as the Minnesota Wild claimed a 5-3 victory over the Dallas Stars in front of a sell-out crowd of 18,504, eliminating Dallas from playoff contention. RW Brad Staubitz, D Jared Spurgeon, LW Colton Gillies, and LW Pierre-Marc Bouchard also tallied for Minnesota. G Jose Theodore made 26 saves in the win. LW Loui Eriksson dished out three assists for Dallas.

Minnesota’s victory eliminated Dallas from playoff contention. The Stars finished with 95 points, two behind eighth place Chicago.

LW Andrew Brunette registered two assists, including his 450th career helper. The forward has posted 706 points (256-450=706) in 1,031 career NHL games.

LW Colton Gillies potted his first NHL goal since 2/19/09 versus the Calgary Flames. He spent the majority of the past two seasons with the Houston Aeros of the AHL, after playing 45 NHL games in 2008-09.

With two helpers tonight, C Mikko Koivu has now recorded five assists in his last two games.

RW Brad Staubitz set a new career-high with his fourth goal of the season. All four of his markers have come in the past 11 games, with three coming in the last six.

Dallas LW Brenden Morrow also set a career-high when he tallied his 33rd goal of the season.

The Wild snapped a six-game losing streak against the Stars (0-4-2). Prior to tonight, the Wild’s last victory against Dallas was a 3-2 decision at Xcel Energy Center 11/7/09.

Tonight’s contest was the final game of the 2010-11 NHL regular season. The Wild also played in the season’s first game, a 4-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in Helsinki, Finland on October 7th.

The Wild finished the season with a mark of 39-35-8, good for 86 points and 12th place in the Western Conference.
