Plays Of The Week: March 14

by Ross Hollebon / Minnesota Wild

It’s time once again for Wild fans to decide the DQ Bakes Play of the Week based on three of the best efforts provided by Wild players from recent games. Voting ends Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

The winning vote getter for the week of March 7 was “Coyle Dangles.” On March 5 Charlie Coyle evened things up in the shootout against Buffalo. He came in from the right side, slow and deliberate and stick handled back and forth multiple times before beating Sabres goalie Robin Lehner and setting up Jason Pominville for the game winner in the next round.

This week’s nominees are:

PLAY #1
Kuemps McKick (March 10, 2016 vs. EDM)
Near the end of the second period in a 1-1 tie with Edmonton, Darcy Kuemper stepped up, and flashed his blocker pad, to stone Oilers rookie phenom Connor McDavid on a shorthanded breakaway. McDavid came straight down the middle of the zone and Kuemper waited him out before making the blocker save, while kicking out in the butterfly.

PLAY #2
Grand Angle (March 12, 2016 at MTL)
Mikael Granlund
was spot on as he beat Montreal goaltender Mike Condon from a tough angle, low off the right face-off circle. Matt Dumba appeared to be centering for Thomas Vanek, but the puck kept moving to the opportune Granlund who notched a first period game winner against the Canadiens.

PLAY #3
Strong Pad Duby (March 12, 2016 at MTL)
Devan Dubnyk
, as part of a 30 save performance, halted a Canadiens rush by making an initial blocker save, followed up by stopping a rebound chance with the toe of his leg pad as the Wild earned two big points on the road.
