Most nights, Nino Niederreiter is skating up and down the wing for Minnesota Wild.
On Thursday, he was a wingman of different sorts.
During pregame warmups prior to the Wild playing the Edmonton Oilers, an enterprising high school student held up a sign in the stands on the end the Wild was skating.
"Hey Nino, if you sign my poster … she'll go to prom with me!" it read.
Little did Max Tangen and his soon-to-be (presumed) prom date Kyra Blaukat know, Niederreiter would spot the posterboard, and the two Wild fans would be whisked into the bowels of Xcel Energy Center, where Niederreiter would not only autograph the sign, but also their jerseys.
"I was shooting in the net, and saw something that said, 'Nino,' and said I had to read it," Niederreiter said. "Then I read it, and asked one of those Wild staff if they could get them."
Growing up in Switzerland, Niederreiter didn't have a prom, but said he was impressed with the execution of the proposal.
"Yeah, it's awesome," he said. "I hope she gives him a chance too, so we'll see."
