DALLAS -- With its second and final pick -- acquired from the Washington Capitals in exchange for Tyler Graovac last summer -- of the fifth round (155th overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, the Minnesota Wild selected center Damien Giroux from the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League.

Fewer than 24 hours after taking Filip Johansson 24th overall Friday night, the Minnesota Wild selected another Swedish defenseman with the same last name in the fifth round (148th overall). With a large frame and ability to finish, Simon Johansson is believe to have considerable upside.

DALLAS -- With its final pick of the third round (92nd overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, the Minnesota Wild selected center Connor Dewar from the Everett Silvertips of the WHL. The Wild acquired this pick from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Alex Tuch during the 2017 Expansion Draft.
DALLAS -- With its first pick of the third round (63rd overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, the Minnesota Wild selected center Jack McBain out of the OJHL. The Wild acquired this pick from Buffalo along with Marcus Foligno and Tyler Ennis in exchange for Marco Scandella, Jason Pominville and a 2018 4th round pick in a move made during the 2017 offseason.
DALLAS -- Filip Johansson may have been surprised to be scooped up in the first round of the NHL Draft. But the Wild were more than happy to oblige.
Minnesota had its sights set on the Swedish defenseman for months before officially bringing him on board with the 24th overall selection Friday at American Airlines Center in Dallas.
"He's a very smart defender, moves and retrieves pucks very well and is a good skater," said Wild Vice President of Hockey Operations Brent Flahr. "As he fills out and gets stronger, we just think his game is going to grow and grow."

Defenseman earned first taste of professional action with Leksands IF last season
DALLAS -- With its first-round pick (24th overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, the Minnesota Wild selected Filip Johansson, an 18-year-old right-shot defenseman. Wild general manager Paul Fenton told NBCSN that he's "just off the chart with his smarts," citing Johansson's hockey IQ as a reason the team selected him over other higher-ranked available prospects.
ST. PAUL -- The Wild enters the week with eight selections in the 2018 NHL Draft, which will take place at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The first round is scheduled for Friday evening on NBCSN while rounds 2-7 will take place the following day and be broadcast on NHL Network.
Minnesota currently holds the 24th selection in the first round on Friday. The Wild didn't have a first round pick last year and has never selected 24th in franchise history.
