FOX Sports North, in conjunction with the Minnesota Wild, today announced new details for the tenth Annual Hockey Day Minnesota (HDM) presented by Wells Fargo, set to take place on Saturday, February 6, 2016. The event’s outdoor games will be played on a specially-constructed rink set against the backdrop of Lake Superior in Duluth’s Bayfront Park.
Volunteer-led rink construction at Bayfront Festival Park is underway. The forecast looks ideal for ice-making, with temperatures well below freezing for the foreseeable future. Leading up to Hockey Day Minnesota, the Bayfront Festival Park rink will play host to a number of events, including youth practices and games as well as a premier girl’s high school matchup (Duluth Northern Stars vs. Cloquet) on Thursday, January 21.
Tickets for the outdoor high school games are available for purchase at hockeydayduluth.com. Proceeds benefit Duluth area youth hockey programs.
Representatives from the Duluth local organizing committee will announce “Let’s Play Hockey” at the Minnesota Wild game this Sunday, January 10.
For the first time, Hockey Day Minnesota merchandise and apparel will be available for purchase. Items are now available at the Hockey Lodge stores and online and stateofhockeystore.com.
The television broadcast event is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. For the first time, FOX Sports North’s anchor desk will be located at the site of the outdoor games. The set will be located next to the rink and feature a backdrop of the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge.
