Minnesota college hockey on display

ST. PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Minnesota's best will be on display this weekend at the Xcel Energy Center.  The WCHA will host the inaugural Minnesota College Hockey showcase featuring NCAA Division I schools; St. Cloud State, Minnesota, Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota State Mankato.

Kicking off the action will be the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs (3-1-2) hosting the St. Cloud State Huskies (3-3-0) at 4:00 p.m.  Both teams are currently winless in the WCHA (0-1-1 and 0-0-2, respectively) and just one, the Huskies, are ranked in the latest today poll.  This season, Duluth has been getting the consistency they have come to expect from Junior goaltender, Alex Stalock.  In six appearances this season Stalock has given up just five even strength goals and has extended his games started streak to 42.  If there's a team that keep Stalock busy, it's St. Cloud.  The Huskies currently rank 4th in the nation with an even 4.00 goals per game average and an eighth ranked power play, sporting a nice 22.4% conversion rate.

The action continues with a rematch of last years exhilarating WCHA first-round playoff match up that featured the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks (3-1-0) and Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-0-1) scheduled for 7:00 p.m.  Minnesota, represented well with the current WCHA offensive and defensive players of the week, looks to remain unbeaten in WCHA competition this year.  Meanwhile, the 2007-2008 WCHA Coach of the Year, Troy Jutting, looks to improve in a 2-23-3 career record vs. the Gophers.

Tickets for the Minnesota College Hockey Showcase are currently on sale at the Xcel Energy Center box office and all ticketmaster locations.  Tikcets are being sold as a two-game package.  For more information, call (651) 989-5151 or visit
