Lindy Ruff Postgame Quotes

by Staff Writer / Minnesota Wild

Sunday, December 11, 2005 versus Minnesota

Your thoughts on the game tonight.

“We didn’t score any pretty goals tonight.  Give them credit for creating traffic.  They had the better chances.  In the third period they had control of the game in the first seven or eight minutes, but once we got past that we did pretty good.  It was nice to kill off that late penalty.”

Do you play down the streak?

“No, not really.  They guys put in the work and it shows on the ice.  Penalty killing, or a power play goal, has won us a lot of games.”

What are you most proud of with the players?

“Their determination.  We are playing close games, and when we have played it close, we have found ways to win.  It seems like a lot of the games in the NHL have tightened up lately.  You look at all of the games and their all close.  It seems like when we needed our goalie to come up with big saves, he has done that.  And when we haven’t played that well defensively, we seem to score enough goals to win.”

Talk about your teams play on the road.

“We have been playing really well on the road.  It was nice to get that late goal tonight.  We seem to feed off each other, and I get confidence by feeding off my teammates.  The Wild have a good skating club, and I thought my defense played well in front of me tonight.”

Are you guys doing anything different on the road than you would at home?

“Not really, we seem to be keeping the games close, and coming up with a big stop or a big goal late in the game to help us win.  When we go home we almost have to treat a home game like a road game, and keep that mentality going.  We don’t want to stop the streak at ten.  We have to continue this against Dallas.  The game against Montreal and Boston seemed to get the ball rolling.  We’ve been getting big goals late in the game, and the D is blocking a lot of shots, making my job a lot easier.”
