Johnsson Ready, Sykora Not

by Glen Andresen / Minnesota Wild
The Minnesota Wild has wrapped up its final practice before heading out early this afternoon for Toronto.

The two big news items are: Kim Johnsson says he is ready to go for tomorrow's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Head Coach Todd Richards said they will decide tomorrow, but it seems like a lock that Johnsson will be in. Richards said there is an option to move John Scott to forward again, now that the team has seven defensemen. But, he said he wouldn't have a decision on that until after tomorrow's morning skate.

Petr Sykora was not on the ice, and Richards confirmed that he suffered a concussion after a hit to the head from Steve Ott on Saturday night. He did not have any timetable for a return, but at this point, it would be a surprise to see Sykora get on the Toronto-bound flight today.

Monday, Todd gave the media an injury update and talked about concussions from his player days

Richards speculated that the spike in head injuries these days can be largely attributed to more and better testing available. He recounted times in his career that he played with concussions. There was one time in particular that he came off the ice, didn't know where he sat in the locker room, and didn't know where his clothes were. Following a three-hour bus ride that night, he got to his car and didn't know how to get home.
