Jacques Lemaire Postgame Quotes

by Staff Writer / Minnesota Wild

September 19, 2006 versus Detroit

How do you gauge this game tonight:

“It was hard to gauge because of the type of team they had in uniform tonight.  It was nice to score early.  I think everyone thought it was going to be easy.  As it turned out it wasn’t.  I think we tried to get fancy.  We needed to get better shots and go to the net.”

Did anything surprise you:

“Not yet.  It’s just the first game, but I thought we took too many penalties tonight.”

Pavol Demitra is good on the penalty kill.  Are you looking to use Gabby (Marian Gaborik) as well:

“I would like to.  He has matured a lot.  The first couple days I saw him, Icould see it.  His demeanor on the ice, in the dressing room, and on the bench.  He’s got that smile and I like that.  He’s showing he wants to play and succeed.  The first year he was very young and he listened a lot.  Now it seems like he’s going on the ice and he knows what to do.”

Early on it looked like it was going to be an easy game.  What happened:

“I think we let up a little bit, but you have to give them credit too.  They came back and played well.  We regrouped and played better.  It was nice to get that third goal.”

What do you feel like you accomplished tonight:

“It was nice to get back, try and get the line setup.  Every game counts even though it was pre-season.  I like to play games rather than practice.”

How do you like playing with Pavol Demitra:

“I like playing with him a lot.  He knows what to do with a puck.  He makes everyone else around him better, and I’m happy to play with him.”

Do you like the short camp:

“I think it’s a good idea.  It’s better working with less players because you get more ice time.  It’s easier to set the line combinations.”
