The Minnesota Wild's American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Wild, announced on Monday its 2016-17 regular season schedule.
For the second straight season Iowa opens at home, welcoming the Manitoba Moose for the season opener at 7 PM on Oct. 14 at Wells Fargo Arena. It marks the beginning of the longest home stretch of the year with seven straight home games to start 2016-17. The Wild has a heavy home schedule to start its fourth AHL season, playing 13 of the first 16 games in Des Moines.
Iowa plays its first road game of the year on Oct. 29 with a visit to Milwaukee. After a game in Grand Rapids and a return to Milwaukee, the Wild opens a six-game home stand from Nov. 6 to Nov. 18 – with appearances by Rockford, Charlotte, Chicago and the first-ever game versus the West Division’s Ontario Reign. As part of the big home stand, Iowa hosts Wild About Education Day, with the annual School Field Trip game at 10:30 AM on Nov. 10 against the Charlotte Checkers.
The club closes out November with its longest road trip of the year at seven games. The Wild venture to Chicago (2), Grand Rapids, Charlotte (2) and Manitoba (2) to close out the second month of the year and begin December. Iowa sees division rival and defending Calder Cup Champion Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena on Dec. 14 and 16.
Iowa hosts six home games in December, including Central Division rival Rockford on Monday, Dec. 26. The Wild rings in the New Year with a game on New Year’s Eve against Chicago at 3 PM. January features a pair of five-game road trips with a four-game home stand sandwiched in between. The Wild visits Grand Rapids, Manitoba (2) and San Antonio (2) in the first part of the month.
Iowa returns to Wells Fargo Arena on Jan. 16 with the first-ever visit from the San Diego Gulls at 7 PM. The Grand Rapids Griffins and Texas Stars (2) also invade Des Moines before Iowa heads out for five more road games.
The Wild welcomes the defending champs for the first time in 2016-17 on Feb. 8 at 7 PM. The team follows with a pair of home games against Grand Rapids on Feb. 10 and 11 before hitting the road to the West coast. The Wild plays for the first time in team history at San Diego on Valentine’s Day and at the Ontario Reign on Feb. 15. The club closes out February by hosting a pair of games with Cleveland at Wells Fargo Arena and embarking on the road for six straight.
Iowa plays twice at Allstate Arena on Feb. 25 and 26 against the Chicago Wolves. The Wild also visits Rockford, Texas and Milwaukee prior to returning home to host Milwaukee for a one-game home stand on Mar. 17. Iowa then heads to Charlotte and Cleveland for a pair of games in both cities before heading back to central Iowa to wrap up the regular season.
The Wild closes out the 2016-17 season with eight of the final ten regular season games at home. From Mar. 28 – Apr. 6, the Wild plays five straight at Wells Fargo Arena with Rockford (2), Cleveland (2) and Chicago. After a visit to the Wolves on Apr. 8, the team comes back for three straight, including two games with Chicago and one with Milwaukee. The team wraps up the regular season on Apr. 15 at Rockford.
