Hendricks signs one-year deal with hometown Wild

Blaine native and former St. Cloud State Husky skated in 60 games with Winnipeg last season

ST. PAUL -- Minnesota Wild General Manager Paul Fenton today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has agreed to terms with forward Matt Hendricks on a one-year, $700,000 contract.

Hendricks, 37, totaled 13 points (5-8=13), 39 penalty minutes (PIM) and 123 hits in 60 games with the Winnipeg Jets during the 2017-18 season. He ranked second amongst Winnipeg forwards in shorthanded TOI/game at 1:59 and ranked fifth on the team in hits. The 6-foot, 209-pound native of Blaine, Minn., also appeared in five Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Jets. The center owns 113 career points (54-59=113), 703 PIM and 1,358 hits in 581 career NHL games during parts of 10 NHL seasons with Colorado (2008-10), Washington (2010-13), Nashville (2013-14), Edmonton (2013-17) and Winnipeg (2017-18). Hendricks has also played in 39 career Stanley Cup Playoff games with Colorado (2009-10), Washington (2010-13) and Winnipeg (2017-18). He ranks third amongst active Minnesota-born skaters in PIM and 11th in games played.

Hendricks collected 112 points (54-58=112) and 193 PIM in 152 games during four seasons at St. Cloud State University (2000-04), and served as captain his senior season. He recorded 155 career points (68-87=155) and 393 PIM in 247 American Hockey League (AHL) games in parts of six seasons (2003-09) before making his NHL debut with the Avalanche on March 10, 2009. 

Nashville selected Hendricks in the fifth round (131st overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
