Glen Andresen's In-Game Commentary at Detroit

What up Mo Bros and Mo Sissies? Welcome to the first day of Movember, meaning we're at day one fo raising money to fight cancers affecting men in addition to bringing the sexy to all those who love lip sweaters. Mustaches have been making the world go round for centuries now, and fighting cancer is just one of the many things they do. They've helped Grover Cleveland become president...twice! They were the engine behind guys like Sherlock Holmes and Magnum P.I. solving the seemingly usolvable mysteries that plague our society. And they helped John Hall make sweet, sweet music.

My 'stache is in its nascent stages, where it will likely stay for the next couple weeks. That's okay, because even the smallest whiskers serve a purpose, just like each letter on this website plays a role. Tonight, that role is to inform Wild fans on how it's going down at The Joe tonight between the Minnesota Wild and the Detroit Red Wings. My Mo and I are here in the Joe Louis Arena Press Box ready to do this thing up right.

Speaking of doing it up right, have you seen how Josh Harding has performed this year? The guy is a frickin' beast, yo! He is in the heads of the Red Wing players after shutting them out on Saturday night, and I see no reason why he's not going to do it again tonight. Hards is getting his second straight start, and his third against the Wings this season. Sorry Detroit. Something good will happen to you sooner or later. Maybe it will be win the Lions win the Super Bowl or something.

As for the rest of the lineup, the Wild will be without the services of Mike Lundin (back), Clayton Stoner (hand) and Greg Zanon (groin) who are back in Minnesota keeping tabs on their mates via live in-game commentary no doubt. Sup guys? Matt Kassian is going to be the only healthy scratch tonight.

If fashion is your thing, I'm here to tell you the Wild will be wearing the road whites for this one. The Wings are decked out in their home reds trimmed in white with the winged tire on the chest.

That's it for the apps. Let's get down to the main course.

Due to connectivity issues at Joe Louis Arena, there may be some delays in commentary posts. All posts will appear when wireless capability is restored.

Period 1

18:13 - We're 1:47 into the game, and it's been the same five guys out on the ice for the Wild. The Wings have them bottled up in the Minnesota zone and nobody can get the puck. Nick Johnson is finally able to get the puck out of the zone and get off for a change, but only after the Wings put four shots on goal already.

15:28 - The Wings power play is getting to work, and Henrik Zetterberg tries to end the power play right here. From the left faceoff circle, he gets off a high-rising slapper that Harding has to catch with his arm. Shots are now 7-0 in favor of the home team. We need that trend to reverse right quick.

14:00 - MIN 0 - DET 1 - You don't often see a team come out like the Wings have tonight and not put one on the board early. It's Nicklas Lidstrom, who should retire any day now, that gets down low in the slot and puts a sick deflection on a pass from Zetterberg. This one just sneaks under the crossbar and the Wings finally solve Harding.

11:13 - There's a spark provided by the man they call "Seto." Devin Setoguchi pulls off a sick move to get around none other than Lidstrom and in on former Maine Black Bear, Jimmy Howard. He tries to stick one in on the five hole, but Howard snuffs that out and hangs on for the faceoff.

9:14 - Guillaume Latendresse takes a slash to the hand while going for a puck in the corner. He skates to the bench with glove off and shaking his hand.

4:02 - Brad Staubitz delivers a big hit on Danny Cleary in retaliation for hit he put on Latendresse. Staubitz continues to talk to Cleary as the two slowly skate back to their respective benches.

0:00 - Have I seen better periods from the Wild? Probably. Are they going to play their best two road periods of the season after this intermission? Absolutely.

Period 2

16:07 - Jared Spurgeon smartly lets a shot go from the blueline as traffic swarms around Howard. The Wings keeper makes a stop with the leg pillow, and the rebound slides just inches from the blade of Matt Cullen in front.

14:33 - Colton Gillies puts a wrister on net that Howard easily gloves. That's when things get interesting as guys start pairing off and exchanging some words. Staubitz and Jonathan Ericsson start jostling, as does Gillies with Jakub Kindl.

11:33 - A much better second period thus far for the good guys. They are taking it to the Wings and grinding for some chances. A shot from the point bounces hard off the boards to the front of the net, and that's where Johnson bangs away from the top of the crease. Howard keeps it out just shy of the goal line.

10:35 - Again, the Wild are moving their feet and creating chances and it starts in the defensive zone. Marco Scandella makes a great play to rub Pavel Datsyuk off the puck and take it away. He starts the break the other way and the play ends with Setoguchi feeding Pierre-Marc Bouchard in front. Butch has to shoot one with his stick between his legs, and Howard is able to make a sprawling save.

9:09 - A little fire out there, folks! That's never a bad thing. After Tomas Holmstrom causes a ruckus in Harding's crease, three Wild players confront him in the corner. Justin Falk offers up a few shoves and there will be some penalties coming out of this. Holmstrom for goalie interference and Falk for a rough.

7:09 - Someone should tell Todd Bertuzzi that cross checking a guy in the face is a penalty. He doesn't seem to understand that as he is escorted to the box because he is complaining the whole way. I wonder if he's ever admitted to a penalty before. I seriously doubt it.

0:00 - I apologize for the lack of updates, but the wireless in this old building is on the fritz. I'm hoping things are better in the second, but things could be touch and go.

Period 3

19:06 - The Wings have already been called for Too Many Men once, and they have six guys out there again. This time, they get away with it.

16:56 - Latendresse is hit by a shot in the high slot, but he grabs the puck on his backhand and puts it right on a screened Howard. The Wings keeper flails to make that stop and Koivu is unable to punch it by him.

15:51 - Bertuzzi takes a huge hack at Setoguchi's stick and snaps it in half. I'm not sure even Bert can argue this penalty. He's going to the box for a slash.

15:16 - Well this is interesting. Former Michigan State Spartan Drew Miller hammers Harding as he's playing the puck behind his own net. Several Wild players confront Miller, but nobody is dumb enough to retaliate because that would negate 1:24 of 5-on-3 power play time coming up. The Wild pretty much has to score on this man advantage. It just has to happen.

15:00 - It takes a lunging save from Howard to keep the Wings advantage for now. A Cullen blast is stopped, and then Dany Heatley shovels a pass to the side of the net for Koivu. He can't quite get it over the outstretched arm of Howard, who is able to hang on.

13:15 - Both penalties are over and now this crowd is beside itself with glee. Could be a huge turning point, but let's hope some guys in red jerseys are exhausted now. By the by, shots are now tied at 22-22.

12:59 - Kyle Brodziak gives the Wild a shot advantage when he gets loose in the slot and pumps a heavy wrister on goal. Howard makes a great stop with the waffle mitt. This kid is on his game tonight.

10:10 - Lookout! Koivu looks up and he's got Johan Franzen bearing in on him. It's too late, and Franzen drills him with a massive hit.

7:03 - Oh my word as my grandmother would say. Harding completely robs Lidstrom of his second goal of the night. He pinches in low on a Detroit power play and from below the left faceoff dot, tries to go upstairs. Somehow, Harding is able to get his glove up just in time to make a spectacular save.

5:18 - The Wings catch the Wild defensemen changing at a bad time and that means a lone break for former Michigan State Spartan Justin Abdelkader. He also tries to go high glove, but Harding's got that area covered tonight. I don't know how one goal has gotten by him tonight. He is standing on his head once again.

1:14 - Harding is off for the extra attacker.

1:00 - MIN 1 - DET 1 - You gotta love it! Like he did last year in this building, Koivu comes up with a huge goal late to tie the game. Falk gets the puck at the point and sends a waist high wrister toward the net. Koivu is positioned perfectly and he tips it on the nose to send it bounding past Howard. A huge, huge goal.

0:00 - Another huge comeback, and the boys are going to OT. A little bonus hockey for y'all, free of charge.

4:21 - Another huge save by Hards. After a stop on a long shot by Niklas Kronwall, he has to go back against the grain to steal one from Cleary on the doorstep. Three games against the Wings, and he's easily the number one star in all three.

3:51 - Big opportunity here as Franzen interferes with Harding, and the Wild will have an overtime power play. They'll call a timeout to draw up the play needed to end this thing.

3:27 - MIN 2 - DET 1 - Ballgame! Koivu fights off a check on the sideboards from Kronwall, who goes flailing back. The fans want a penalty, and for what? I'm not sure. Koivu makes his way to the slot and slides it to the net. Setoguchi tips it, gets his rebound and buries it for the game-winner. What a huge, huge comeback for the boys!
