Minnesota’s leading scorer to make second All-Star appearance
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Marian Gaborik will represent the Minnesota Wild at the 2008 National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star Game, Sunday, Jan. 27 at Philips Arena in Atlanta, the league announced Thursday.
Gaborik, 25 (2/14/82), makes his second All-Star Game appearance, having been selected as the Wild’s first-ever All-Star in 2002-03, when he also won the NHL’s Fastest Skater Competition on All-Star Saturday. Gaborik leads the Wild this season in goals (21) and points (40), and on Dec. 20, he posted the NHL’s first five-goal game in nearly 11 years, against the New York Rangers.
The Trencin, Slovakia, native is the Wild’s all-time leader in goals (185), points (371), assists (186), games played (445), power play goals (52) and game winning goals (37). The Dec. 20 game marked his ninth career hat trick.
The 2008 NHL All-Star Weekend in Atlanta will feature live national broadcasts of the Dodge/NHL SuperSkills event on Saturday, Jan. 26 and the NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, Jan. 27 on VERSUS in the United States and CBC and RDS in Canada. NASN and other international broadcasters will provide live coverage of both the Dodge/NHL SuperSkills event and the NHL All-Star Game to more than 115 countries and territories in Europe.
