The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Minnesota Wild today announced the four finalists in the Capital of the State of Hockey contest on www.wild.com are Grand Rapids, Hibbing, International Falls and Roseau. The winner of the Capital of the State of Hockey contest, presented by TRIA Orthopaedic Center, will be announced on April 10 when the Wild hosts the Dallas Stars. Fans can see the full bracket and vote by clicking on the State of Hockey link on the home page of www.wild.com.
The first semifinal (International Falls vs. Hibbing) will begin at noon on Monday, March 29 and run thru noon on Wednesday, March 31. The second semifinal (Grand Rapids vs. Roseau) will begin at noon on Wednesday, March 31 and run thru noon Friday, April 2. The championship will begin at noon on Friday, April 2 and will run thru midnight on Thursday, April 8. The winning city will be announced at the Wild vs. Dallas Stars game on Saturday, April 10. A representative of the winning city will be invited to the game where he/she will be presented with a team autographed State of Hockey flag.
A total of 32 cities from across the state competed in the contest: Anoka, Apple Valley, Baudette, Bemidji, Blaine, Bloomington, Burnsville, Cloquet, Coleraine, Duluth, Eden Prairie, Edina, Elk River, Eveleth, Grand Rapids, Hastings, Hibbing, International Falls, Maplewood, Minneapolis, Moorhead, Red Wing, Richfield, Rochester, Roseau, South St. Paul, St. Cloud, St. Paul, Thief River Falls, Twig, Warroad and White Bear Lake.
