Fernandez Practices: Won’t Play Friday

by Staff Writer / Minnesota Wild

Manny Fernandez left Saturday’s game against Dallas with a lower body injury.
Minnesota Wild goaltender Manny Fernandez practiced for about 45 minutes on Thursday, taking shots from goaltending coach Bob Mason before participating in some team drills. Fernandez left Friday’s 2-1 shootout loss to Dallas in the first period after suffering a lower body injury.

"He’s out for tomorrow, but he’s doing fine," said Wild assistant general manager, Tom Lynn.

Niklas Backstrom will get the start against Calgary, with recently recalled Josh Harding serving as the backup.

Lynn also said that Kurtis Foster is progressing well from a lower body injury, and should resume skating early next week. The news regarding Todd White did not appear as promising. White also sustained a lower body injury, and he has yet to be able to undergo serious rehab due to swelling.

"We don’t know yet," said Lynn regarding White’s possible return to the lineup.

A New Walzy

The happiest guy at Wild practice on Thursday was Wes Walz. Wes and his wife, Kerry-Anne, welcomed Cheyne Patricia Walz into their family on Tuesday morning. Cheyne tipped the scales at seven pounds, seven ounces and is 20 inches. Cheyne has three older siblings: Kelvin, Jaedyn and Brehna.
