Fantasy Spotlight: MIN at NYI

by Carly Peters / Minnesota Wild

Fantasy Pick: Brent Burns

Minnesota blueliner Brent Burns has been on an offensive tear all season, and his ability to put points on the board has never been more welcome as the Wild deals with injuries and illness. Burns' stellar, between-the-legs goal in the Wild's most recent game showcased his great skill, but it was also a major milestone. The marker was his 16th goal of the season, a personal-best that set a new Wild franchise record for most goals in a season by a defenseman.

The NHL All-Star has netted eight points (2-6=8) in the past 11 games, including three straight contests (2-2=4). Burns has stepped up in the Wild's current chase for the playoffs by chipping in 13 points (4-9=13) during the Minnesota's 12-6-1 stretch.

Burns leads all Wild blueliners and ranks T-9th among all NHL defensemen with 39 points (16-23=39) this season. He now ranks second among NHL defensemen in goals. Additionally, the 25-year-old is just four points shy of tying his career high of 43 set in 2007-08.
