Fantasy Spotlight: MIN at FLA

by Carly Peters / Minnesota Wild

Fantasy Pick: Matt Cullen

Minnesota's own Matt Cullen started the season on an absolute tear, quickly climbing up not only the Wild's scoring charts, but the league's. Cullen has cooled off a bit lately, but if there was ever a time for him to get hot, it's against one of his former teams.

Cullen skated in 86 games with the Panthers from 2002-04. As he showcased when the Wild played his former Hurricanes earlier this season, Cullen usually plays well against his former employers.

In fact, Cullen registered eight points (4-4=8) in just seven games against Florida last season. He also leads all of his Wild teammates with 26 points (10-16=26) in 38 games against the Panthers.

For all the talk of Cullen's scoring tapering off, he is still putting up numbers that most guys in the league would trade for every day of the week. When he assisted on Antti Miettinen's goal last night, Cullen registered his 11th power-play point of the season (3-8=11), making him T-1st in the NHL in power play scoring.

Cullen has totaled 13 points (3-10=13) in 14 games this season, exceeding the expectations placed on him this summer, despite having to get used to a new set of teammates and the stresses of playing in his home state. Tonight, look for him to continue to add to his impressive total, facing off against a team that he shines against.
