Dave Tippet Postgame Quotes

by Staff Writer / Minnesota Wild

Monday, January 09, 2006 versus Minnesota

Your thoughts on all these come from behind wins.

“Being one goal down isn’t as dramatic.  I just as soon not be down three, like in the previous game.  But we feel like we can come from behind against anyone.”

How do you feel when you play this team.

“You have to come in with a certain mind set.  They’re the best transition team in the league.  You have to be disciplined.  Not for 20 or 40 minutes but for the full 60, and I think we did that tonight.”

Talk about your good play on the road.

“Our special teams, both penalty killing and power play have been very good on the road, but you have to have those things to give yourself a chance to win on the road.  We have a very close group.  There’s no finger pointing, everyone sticks together and they play for each other.”

Mike Modano

What is the teams mindset when you play this team.

“They play a solid team game.  They are very well coached, and you have to pick your spots, and we have to adjust to this type of game, be very disciplined.  Because they play a smothering system.  Don’t get discouraged, and be selective on what you do.”

You guys are a good come from behind team.  Can you explain why.

“The game is called a lot different this year, and even if your down a couple goals we feel we still can come back.  When we were down two goals last year, they way things were called, it was sometimes tough to catch up.  But this year with a tighter called game, and more power play chances, we have more chances to score, and it wasn’t that way last year.”

Talk about Manny’s (Fernandez) play.

“He kept them in the game tonight.  It looks like he is seeing the puck very well.  I’m sure his confidence is very high, and it tells by the way he’s been playing.  I thought I had him there, but he came over pretty well.  I probably should have shot it a lot higher.”

How do you like playing in this building.

“I love playing here.  The way the arena is set up, the fans seem like they are right on top of you.  The atmosphere in the arena is one of the best in the league.  I remember the old Met (Metropolitan Sports Center) during the playoffs, and that arena was as loud as any arena in the league.  And I’ll always remember those playoff games against teams like Chicago and Detroit.  They were fun times.”
