EDMONTON COACH CRAIG MACTAVISH QUOTES
Tuesday, March 14, 2006 versus Minnesota
Your thoughts on the game.
“It went right down to the last second. We tried just to get it across the blue line. They put a lot of pressure on at the end. I thought we did what we needed to do to win. When we were up two to nothing I thought it would be easier, but they got that quick goal in the third and we had to battle the rest of the way.”
Talk about your goalie’s play.
“He made some great saves. They seemed to be shooting from everywhere, and the guys played well in front of him. This was a big win for him and the team.”
How important is each game?
“I think they’ll all be like tonight. It will be a pressure filled situation from now until the end of the year. You have to try and relax, and play the way you know you can play.”
How important is this first win?
“It’s nice to get that first win, especially in Minnesota. We went up two to nothing, but we had to battle, and we were lucky enough to hold on to the win.”
Edmonton seemed to get you right into the play.
“We played so many games since the trade, yesterday’s day off was actually my first practice with the team, but it’s nice to come to a team that has the history like Edmonton does. With five Stanley cups, and we’re in the middle of a playoff race, each game is so very important. We have to keep winning because all the teams are so bunched up. We have to take it one game at a time.”
Any thing you want to tell the fans in Minnesota?
“I’d like to thank the fans. They were great, I’ll never forget the standing ovation they gave me at the All Star Game, and the way they acted during our play off run when we made it to the Western Finals. The fans were great to me and my family.”
