Coyle, Zucker Closer Than Step Brothers

by Mike Doyle / Minnesota Wild
When the Lighthouse saw the photo tweet of Charlie Coyle and Jason Zucker posing as Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in Step Brothers from @mnwild last night, we got more excited than Dale during Shark Week.

The BFFs were posing in a photo shoot for the December issue of Wild Magazine, modeling official team gear found at the Hockey Lodge. They both reached for the same sweatshirt and decided to reproduce the iconic shot from the comedy.

“We were fighting over who was going to do it,” Zucker said. “They said we’d be able to both have them if we did a picture together. Charlie came up with the idea so we ended up going with it.”

“Of course I did. I’m glad he admitted to that,” Coyle deadpanned about coming up with the notion. “No, it was a team effort though.”

The buddies hang out often, just like Dale and Brennan, doing so many activities together like ping pong, darts, water aerobics and curling (shameless plug alert) like in this Becoming Wild webisode.

“That movie controls our lives in some ways I think,” Zucker joked.

Coyle said that their similarities are eerie sometimes because they hang out so much. They are roommates, spend downtime hanging out and sit next to each other on team flights. Incidents, like reaching for the same hoodie during the photo shoot, happen all the time.

“We came for a road trip and we were wearing the same exact collared shirt,” Coyle said. “A couple days before that we were going to the mall for the day off. I came out of my room and we had the same exact outfit on: sweatpants, shirt, sweatshirt, everything. I looked at him and said, ‘I’ll go change this time.’”

They both agreed that Zucker was more like Dale (played by Reilly) because he’s more obsessive compulsive and doesn’t like it when anyone touches his stuff and Coyle is more like Brennan (played by Ferrell) because he’s more likely to be lounging on the couch.

“I don’t play the drums,” Zucker said. “I’m more OCD than him, so he doesn’t really mess with my stuff. But I don’t know if he’s laying around until 4 in the afternoon watching COPS.”

No word on whether or not there’s plans to ride majestic, translucent steeds, shooting flaming arrows across the bridge of Hemdale together.

Talking ‘Bout Practice

Outside of Zucker and Coyle, the rest of the Wild might be getting a little too close because of all the practices. In two weeks, the team has played only four games (Boston and Calgary by comparison have played eight) and it seems like the team has done nothing but practice since starting the season. Wild Head Coach Mike Yeo didn’t go full Allen Iverson talking about practice, but did say the team just wants to get into some games.

“We’re all sick of practicing. We’re our own biggest rivalry right now,” Yeo cracked.

Kuemper Starts; Ballard, Folin on Blue

Wild Head Coach Mike Yeo said that Darcy Kuemper will get the start tomorrow night as the club hosts the Arizona Coyotes.

Christian Folin and Keith Ballard will be the team’s third defensive pairing.

PJ's for Patients Pajama Drive

The Wild Better Halves will host a PJ’s for Patients Pajama Drive tomorrow as the team hosts the Coyotes. Fans can donate new, un-worn PJ’s of all sizes at designated gates 1-4 of Xcel Energy Center prior to the start of the game. The Better Halves will deliver donated PJs to pediatric cancer patients in local children’s hospitals.
