| Shawn Belle registered an assist in four games during his first NHL stint. |
Shawn Belle certainly didn’t do anything to embarass himself during his first four National Hockey League games. In fact, Belle picked up an assist, was not on the ice for an opponent goal, and finished his stint with a plus-one rating. However, as the Wild lineup inches closer to some semblance of healthy, young prospects like Belle are best suited for seasoning and ice time in the American Hockey League.
The rookie defenseman was assigned to the Houston Aeros on Sunday afternoon. Although defenseman Kurtis Foster isn’t ready to return from a throat injury, the team appears confident that Brent Burns can transition back to the blueline. Burns manned the point in Sunday’s win over Chicago.
"Burns was fine," said Jacques Lemaire on Saturday. "He’s a mobile player, as long as he doesn’t try too many tricks with the puck. If he doesn’t do that, he’s fine."
The Wild will begin a three-game road trip on Tuesday in Calgary, and the club will do it with 20 players. Foster and Marian Gaborik are not expected to make the trip. Wes Walz will travel and may be nearing a return.
