Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom was named one of the NHL's "Three Stars" of the week, along with New York Islanders goaltender Wade Dubielewicz and Colorado Avalanche center, Joe Sakic. Backstrom earned Third Star honors after posting a 3-0-0 record including two shutouts last week. In three games, Backstrom allowed just one goal for a 0.33 goals against average and stopped 71 of 72 shots for a .986 save percentage. The Wild defeated the Edmonton Oilers twice on identical 3-0 scores, and then finished the season with a 5-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues.
Backstrom finished his first NHL season with a 23-8-6 record and led all netminders with a 1.97 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.
