LOS ANGELES COACH ANDY MURRAY QUOTES

Tuesday, March 07, 2006 versus Minnesota

You guys have been resilient since the break.

“We had ten shots after the first two periods.  This is a very structured team we played tonight, but we found a way to win.  Not many teams come back from two to nothing against this team.  They’re very well coached and they know how to play with a lead.  We had to play with five defensemen.  Mattias Norstrom went out with the flu, and he was on an IV, so we had to find a way to play with the five defensemen that we had.”

What changed in that third period?

“We concentrated on getting more shots.  We were able to get more in front of the net, and the third period was more the way we wanted it.”

Craig Conroy

Your thoughts going into the game.

“We talked as a team that this was a big game.  If we won we’d be up ten points, if we lost we’d be up six, so we wanted to put some distance between the teams behind us.  We came out kind of slow the first two periods, but played better in the third.  These two points are huge with nineteen games left.  It doesn’t matter how pretty the wins are, we have to get as many points as we can.”

What was the biggest difference in the third period?

“We decided to open it up more in the third.  We had to play a little more desperate.  Being down two to nothing we knew it was going to be tough, but we figured what’s the difference if your down three or four.  We wanted to get that first goal but it didn’t work out that way, so we had to battle back, and this was a big win for us.”
