In its four previous years, Hockey Day Minnesota has always encapsulated hockey from the peewee level to high school to college and the NHL. But in year five, another level will have its day, the American Hockey League. Despite being based in Texas, the Houston Aeros will call Xcel Energy Center home on Hockey Day when they host the Peoria Rivermen, the minor league affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, at 2:30 p.m.
The Wild and Blues will play later that night at 8:00 p.m. Ticket information including a special double header ticket package will be announced at a later date.
“We are excited to provide our great hockey fans the opportunity to watch both the Wild and Aeros play at Xcel Energy Center on the same day,” said Assistant to the General Manager/Houston Aeros General Manager Jim Mill.
This will be the third time the Aeros have played a home game in St. Paul. The most recent was in March of 2005 when Houston defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins, 3-1. That game featured Pierre-Marc Bouchard
, Brent Burns, Josh Harding
and Mikko Koivu
on the Houston roster, and Nik Kronwall, Brett Lebda and Mark Eaton on the Grand Rapids roster.
