10th HDM Anniversary Flag Raised In Duluth To Mark 100 Days Out

An official 10th Annual Wells Fargo Hockey Day Minnesota flag was raised during a special ceremony at Duluth’s Bayfront Park today to mark 100 days to the statewide hockey celebration, which will take place on Saturday, Feb. 6. Year 2016 will mark a decade of Hockey Day Minnesota celebrations.

Officials from the Minnesota Wild, FOX Sports North, Minnesota Hockey, the Duluth Organizing Committee and Duluth’s host high schools gathered to mark the occasion and provide an update on preparations. Duluth will host Hockey Day’s outdoor games in 2016 at Bayfront Park along the shore of Lake Superior.

“The Duluth community is coming together to support preparation and planning efforts and to share in the excitement for Wells Fargo Hockey Day Minnesota 2016,” said Pat Heffernan with the Duluth Local Organizing Committee. “As the temperature dips we will begin constructing the rink and the sheet of ice that will mark the host site. Set against the backdrop of the iconic Ariel Lift Bridge and Duluth Harbor, Hockey Day 2016 will be remembered for years to come. We look forward to having community events in the days leading up to hockey day, making the site a community treasure that many can enjoy.”

Tickets for Wells Fargo Hockey Day Minnesota 2016 in Duluth are on sale now at Proceeds from the event will benefit Duluth area youth hockey programs.

To celebrate the 10th annual event, Hockey Day organizers are also launching a “Favorite Hockey Day Memory” contest for a chance to win a 2-night stay at the Inn on Lake Superior and tickets to the Hockey Day outdoor games in Duluth, among other great prizes. While the complete schedule for on-ice games and festivities for Hockey Day in Duluth has yet to be announced, the schedule for games televised by FOX Sports North as part of Wells Fargo Hockey Day Minnesota 2016 is as follows:

FOX Sports North coverage of Wells Fargo Hockey Day Minnesota 2016 will include a full day of hockey-related programming designed as a celebration of the game from peewees to pros. Additional programming details for Hockey Day Minnesota 2016 will be announced closer to the event.

The outdoor games will be played on a specially-constructed rink set against the backdrop of Lake Superior in Duluth’s Bayfront Park. In the event the outdoor ice is deemed unplayable due to weather, outdoor games would be moved to the Duluth Heritage Sports Center.

Hockey Day Minnesota was originated in 2007 by the Minnesota Wild to celebrate the game that has made Minnesota the State of Hockey. It is produced in partnership with FOX Sports North, Minnesota Hockey and the respective local community that serves as host each year.
