HOPE 4 Youth provides pathways to end youth homelessness.
On any given night in Minnesota, 6,000 youth are without a home. Many are sleeping in their cars, on a friend's couch, or out on the street. Zac, homeless at 19, was one of those youth.
Zac first came to HOPE 4 Youth in November of 2017. He was without a home, sleeping in his car while holding down several jobs. He heard about HOPE 4 Youth's Drop-In Center, a resource hub, from a friend and once there, he visited almost daily to shower, wash laundry, and grab a snack before his afternoon shift. On the few days he didn't have to work, Zac would stay for a hot meal and meet with a case manager to work toward stable and affordable housing.
"Even on the warm nights, it's still cold." Zac told us this summer as he moved out of his car and into his first home - a duplex arranged through HOPE 4 Youth's Housing Navigation Program. This will be the first winter in two years that Zac has a place to call home.
Last year, more than 800 young people experiencing homelessness accessed resources at HOPE 4 Youth, a local nonprofit working to provide pathways to end youth homelessness. The first and only Drop-In Center and supportive transitional housing program for youth in the north metro area, HOPE 4 Youth strives to provide a community where all youth feel safe, valued, and supported, while reaching their full potential. This begins with meeting their basic needs and leads to giving them the tools to thrive.
