ZUBOV NAMED NHL’S ‘SECOND STAR OF THE WEEK’
FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars defenseman Sergei Zubov was named the “Second Star of the Week” by the National Hockey League for the week ending December 16.
Zubov helped lead the Stars to a 3-0-0 record last week, collecting three straight multi-point games, eight points (one goal and seven assists) and a +5 rating. On Dec. 10 vs. Edmonton, Zubov notched a goal and three assists for four points, tying a career high in points set five other times, including once previously this season (0-4-4 on Nov. 16 vs. Colorado). Zubov recorded two assists (0-2-2) on both Dec. 13 vs. Los Angeles and Dec. 15 at San Jose, extending his current assist streak to four games (1-8-9).
Zubov is currently leading all NHL defensemen in assists (28) and points (32), and his 23 assists since Nov. 1 are tied for first in the NHL lead over that span (Vincent Lecavalier, Tampa Bay). Zubov also leads the Stars in helpers and is tied for second on the club in scoring.
Zubov, 37, is the only NHL defenseman to collect 30+ assists and 40+ points for the past 11 seasons (1995-present) and is on pace to extend that streak to 12 in 2007-08. The 6-1, 198-pound native of Moscow recorded his 600th career NHL assist on Nov. 21 vs. Anaheim, becoming just the 15th defenseman in NHL history to reach that milestone.
