Denis Gurianov scores the game-winner as Russia downs Slovakia on last day of preliminary round games

Here's a look at how Dallas Stars prospects playing at the 2017 World Junior Championship in Montreal and Toronto fared on Saturday, which was the final day of preliminary round play.

Forward Denis Gurianov (Russia): Gurianov scored his first goal of the World Juniors as Russia defeated Slovakia 2-0 on Saturday. Gurianov scored on a rebound with Russia on the power play to break a scoreless tie in the second period. Gurianov played on Russia's second line and saw 19:01 of ice time. He has registered three points (one goal, two assists) in four games at the tournament. Russia plays Denmark in Monday's quarterfinal round.

Forward Fredrik Karlstrom (Sweden): Karlstrom recorded two assists and a plus-two rating in Sweden's 5-2 win over Czech Republic. Karlstrom, who had three shots on goal, played on Sweden's third line and logged 13:41 of ice time. He has two assists and a plus-three rating in four games. Sweden plays Slovakia in the quarterfinals.

Defenseman Joe Cecconi (United States): Cecconi had no points and one shot on goal in the USA's 3-1 victory over Canada. Cecconi, who was the USA's seventh defenseman, played 10:43 and was an effective penalty killer as the Americans allowed Canada just one goal in 11:48 of power-play time. Cecconi has two assists in four games. The USA plays Switzerland in the quarterfinals.

Defenseman Ondrej Vala (Czech Republic): Vala had no points and an even rating in Czech Republic's 5-2 loss to Sweden. Vala played on the third defensive pair and logged 13:35 of ice time. He has no points in four games and is averaging 14:03 of ice time per game. The Czechs play Canada in the quarterfinals.

Goaltender Markus Ruusu (Finland): Did not dress for Finland's game against Switzerland. Ruusus did not dress in any of the four preliminary round games for Finland, which will play Latvia in the relegation round.
