Stars defense prospect Esa Lindell registered an assist as Finland defeated Belarus, 3-2, in a shootout on Monday at the World Championship.
Lindell, who played 16:36 and had two shots on goal, is tied for second in defensemen scoring at the tournament with six points (two goals, four assists) in six games.
Stars defenseman Jyrki Jokipakka played 11:40 and had one shot on goal for Finland on Monday. He has scored two goals in six games.
Finnish goaltender Pekka Rinne didn’t allow a goal until 5:09 of the third period, running his shutout streak to 237:05, a new tournament record.
Antoine Roussel picks up two assists in loss to Sweden; Klingberg sits out due to illness
Stars forward Antoine Roussel picked up his first points at the World Championship, registering two assists but France fell to Sweden, 4-2.
Roussel had the primary assist on two Damien Fleury goals that gave France a 2-1 lead, but Sweden rattled off three straight goals to secure the victory.
Stars goaltender Jhonas Enroth stopped 15 of 17 shots for Sweden. Enroth has won all five of his starts at the tournament, posting a 2.34 goals-against average and .889 save percentage. Roussel has two assists in six games.
Stars defenseman John Klingberg did not play for Sweden Monday due to illness. Klingberg has registered four points (one goal, three assists) in six games for Sweden.
Canada, USA notes
Tyler Seguin scored two goals – both assisted by Jason Spezza – as Canada defeated France, 4-3, on Saturday. Cody Eakin did not factor in the scoring for Canada, and Antoine Roussel did not score for France.
Eakin had one goal and one assist, Seguin scored one goal and Spezza had one assist in Canada’s 7-2 win over Switzerland on Sunday.
Seguin has scored five goals in six games. Spezza has registered seven points (two goals, five assists) in six games. Eakin has four points (three goals, one assist) in six games.
Stars goaltending prospect Jack Campbell did not play for the USA over the weekend. Campbell is 1-1 at the tournament with a 3.50 goals-against average and .825 save percentage.
