Woodall Rodgers Frontage Road Closure Starts This Weekend

Here is the press release for construction of The Park over Woodall Rodgers Freeway.  This closure will cause traffic back-ups will affect guests, as they travel to and from the Stars game on Saturday.

DALLAS – As construction of the Woodall Rodgers Deck Park continues, The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is allowing the Contractor, Archer Western, to close portions of the eastbound and westbound frontage lanes of Woodall Rodgers Freeway.  The closure will be in phases as the contractor demolishes and reconstructs the existing pavement at Harwood Street/Woodall Rodgers frontage road intersections.  The closure is necessary to protect motorists and their vehicles from debris during the demolition. 

  1. Both eastbound Woodall Rodgers frontage lanes will be closed between St. Paul and Olive Streets on Friday, October 15, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  After 2 p.m. one eastbound lane will be re-opened to traffic (detour below).
  2. Beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2010, both lanes on eastbound and westbound frontage roads will be closed between St. Paul and Olive Streets and continue through 5 p.m. (detour below).
  3. Then, beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010 and continuing through 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2010, each frontage road, east and westbound, will have one lane open to traffic.  

Eastbound Woodall Rodgers frontage road traffic will be detoured south at St. Paul Street and east on Ross Street and then back north on Olive Street back to Woodall Rodgers.  Westbound Woodall Rodgers frontage road traffic will be detoured north at Olive Street and west on McKinney Avenue and then back south on St. Paul back to Woodall Rodgers.   Detour signage will direct motorists through the construction area. 

TxDOT has been in communication to keep businesses and residents in the area apprised.  TxDOT designed the contract to minimize construction impacts and maximize safety for the traveling public. Closures are limited to nights and weekends and consideration has been made for area events and activities. 

Information on future construction activities will be posted on TxDOT’s website at in addition to postings on the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation website at under the mobility section. 

TxDOT awarded the $44.5 million dollar contract to Archer Western to construct the deck and plaza over Woodall Rodgers Freeway.  The project starts west of St. Paul and extends 1/4 mile to east of Pearl Street, and when complete, will create a short tunnel.   

This partnership project between TxDOT, the City of Dallas and the private sector included $16.7 million dollars of enhancement funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is scheduled to be completed in early 2012. 

TxDOT asks motorists to drive carefully through the work zone and appreciates their patience during this unique and exciting project.
