DALLAS STARS RECALL CENTER WANDELL FROM TIMRA IK
The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has recalled center Tom Wandell
from Timra IK in the Swedish Elite League.
Wandell, 22, made his NHL debut Dec. 10 vs. Phoenix and scored his first NHL goal in his second career game, Dec. 12 vs. Detroit. He has appeared in four games for the Stars this season, from Dec. 10 – 16, recording one goal.
The native of Sodertalje, Sweden, skated in 51 games with Timra this season, recording 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points with 26 penalty minutes. He led the team in assists, was second in points and tied for second in goals scored. He appeared in seven postseason games for the Red Eagles, recording four assists.
Wandell played for the Iowa Stars (AHL) last season, posting 19 points (10 goals, nine assists) and 16 penalty minutes in 53 games. He added three goals in three games with the ECHL Idaho Steelheads in 2007-08. In 50 games with Assat Pori in the Finnish Elite League in 2006-07, the 6-1, 185-pound center collected 12 points (six goals, six assists) and 20 PIM.
Dallas’ fifth-round pick (No. 146 overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Wandell skated for Team Sweden at the 2004 World Under-18 Championships and the 2006 Four Nations Cup.
The Stars will host the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday, March 24, at American Airlines Center (7:30 p.m., FOX Sports Southwest, News/Talk 820 WBAP). Dallas will also host the Los Angeles Kings (Thursday) and the Florida Panthers (Saturday) in a three-game home stand this week.
