The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has placed center Tom Wandell
on injured reserve, retroactive to Jan. 24, and recalled right wing Raymond Sawada
from the Texas Stars, Dallas’ primary affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Wandell, 24, has played in 46 games for Dallas this season, recording four points (3g, 1a), before injuring his shoulder Jan. 24 at Vancouver. Last season he scored five goals, including three game-winners, and 10 assists in 50 games in his rookie campaign for the Stars. The 6-1, 196-pound center, skated in 51 games for Timra IK of the Swedish Elite League in 2008-09, tallying 41 points (15g, 26a). The Sodertalje, Sweden, native was drafted by Dallas in the fifth round (146th overall) at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Sawada, 25, has played in 36 games for Texas this season, collecting 17 points (7g, 10a). He has appeared in 10 NHL games in his career, all with Dallas, tallying one goal. Last season the 6-2, 207-pound right wing helped the Texas Stars reach the Calder Cup Finals in the club’s inaugural season, accruing eight points (3g, 5a) in 24 playoff games and 19 points (8g, 11a) in 60 regular season games. The Richmond, British Columbia, native was selected in the second round (52nd overall) at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
