Dallas will close out the season with three games in four days beginning with a home-and-home series with the Coyotes in Phoenix on Thursday. The Stars will also host San Jose in the season finale -- a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday afternoon.
“March wasn’t the best month for us, but we have three games remaining and it is important that we play well and get some momentum going for us,” said Steve Ott
. “I think we just need to keep going at it and playing hard and things will take care of itself.”
Dallas currently sits in the 5 seed, which would pit them against Anaheim if the season were to end today. There still is a chance that the Stars could pass the Ducks for the 4 seed, and also could possibly drop to the 6 seed. But probabilities have Dallas staying right where it is.
The bottom line -- the Stars are in the playoffs.
“Our goal on the road trip was to secure a spot,” said Head Coach Dave Tippett. “Considering the March that we had, there were some real positive signs and the guys were working hard today to get ready for the playoffs. We got a lot of time to work on things in March and even though our record wasn’t what we hoped, we did get the time in. We have three games in four days to end the season and that will help as well. We want to finish strong.”
The Stars are not against starting the playoffs on the road.
“I like the road,” said Tippett. “The atmosphere in the playoffs is already revved up and its just you and the team -- its all hockey, all the time, there are no distractions. We like the idea of starting on the road. Whoever it is we face and wherever that might be, we need to be ready. That’s our focus.”
Added Ott, “Once the playoffs start, everyone is at zero and we go from there. This is one of the best times of the year and we’re all excited about it. I think this group came together on this last road trip and we turned a corner. We may have lost two of the games in overtime and in a shootout but we played hard and competed and played well, for the most part. The playoffs are always fun and this team is going to give it our all.”
