Texas Stars Report

by Mark Stepneski / Dallas Stars

The Texas Stars and Idaho Steelheads both had their seasons come to an end last week. Texas fell to San Diego in the first round of the AHL playoffs, and Idaho lost a seventh and deciding game to the Allen Americans in the first round ECHL playoffs. Here’s the latest on Dallas’ minor league affiliates.

Thursday, April 28: San Diego 6, Texas 1

The Stars lost 6-1 at San Diego to fall behind 2-1 in the best-of-five series. The Gulls led 1-0 after one period and 4-0 after two. San Diego outshot the Stars 48-29 in the game. Esa Lindell scored the lone goal for the Stars, and Jack Campbell made 42 saves.

Friday, April 29: San Diego 6, Texas 2

The Stars saw their season come to an end with a 6-2 loss to San Diego, which won the first-round series 3-1. The Stars and Gulls were tied 1-1 after one period, but San Diego led 4-1 after two periods and extended its lead to 5-1 before the midway point of the third period. Brendan Ranford and Brett Ritchie scored goals for Texas. Jack Campbell got the start in goal and stopped 14 of 18 shots before being pulled in the second period. Maxime Lagace stopped 17 of 18 shots the rest of the way.

“I thought we were in control after the first two games [of the series]. Then we got out there [to San Diego], they got a couple players down from Anaheim, and I think that changed the series around big time,” said Texas forward Curtis McKenzie. “They’re a good team; I’ve got to give them credit. I think Game 3 we weren’t really there. I think Game 4 we were chasing and trying to cheat our way to winning and it backfired on us. I think a lot of us are probably really frustrated at how it ended on the last two games there.”
