Texas Stars Report

by Mark Stepneski / Dallas Stars

The Texas Stars went 0-1-1 over the past week and are now 3-1-1 on the season. The one point the Stars did earn was an impressive one as they rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the third period to force overtime against Oklahoma City. And Travis Morin had a big week, scoring four goals and adding two assists. Here’s an update on Dallas’ American Hockey League affiliate.

Friday October 24: Oklahoma City 5, Texas 3

The Stars suffered their first loss of the season, falling 5-3 at Oklahoma City Friday. The two teams were tied 1-1 after one period, but the Barons scored three goals in a 4:27 span of the second period to take control of the game. Cameron Gaunce, John Klingberg and Travis Morin scored goals for Texas. Jack Campbell started in goal for the Stars and stopped 21 of 26 shots.

Saturday October 25: Oklahoma City 6, Texas 5 (OT)

The Stars lost their second straight game, dropping a 6-5 overtime decision to Oklahoma City at Cedar Park Center Saturday night. But they were able to salvage a point after rallying from a 5-2 deficit in the third period to force overtime.

Down 5-2 entering the third, the Stars outshot the Barons 21-5 and received two goals from Travis Morin and the game-tying goal from Greg Rallo with two seconds left in regulation. But Oklahoma City scored at 4:46 of overtime with the two sides playing three-on-three to pick up the extra point.

“You’ve got to give the guys credit,” Texas coach Derek Laxdal told media following the game. “That’s a big point we didn’t have going into the third period. Give our guys credit for never saying die.”

Morin, who also scored in the first period, had a hat trick on the night. Derek Meech also had a goal. John Klingberg, Scott Glennie and Derek Hulak had two assists each. Jussi Rynnas started in goal and stopped 27 of 33 shots.
